The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) EMS Utilizes General Devices (GD) e-Bridge™ Mobile Telemedicine for Electrocardiogram (ECG) Transmissions

e-Bridge Mobile Telemedicine

Ridgefield, New Jersey (November 28, 2018) – General Devices (GD) is pleased to announce the selection of e-Bridge ™ Mobile Telemedicine for Electrocardiogram (ECG) Transmissions by the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

As the largest Fire Department in the United States, FDNY is also universally recognized as the busiest in the world with more than 1.4M medical incidents handled annually. As such, ECG (EKG) transmission communications via GD e-Bridge Mobile Telemedicine are crucial to saving lives in the greater New York area. When a heart attack is suspected, triage and timing are critical. Once on-scene an FDNY paramedic quickly obtains a 12-lead ECG from the patient and transmits the report to a physician at the agency’s Telemetry Center in Woodside Queens. The physician reviews the 12-lead and consults with the medic.  The 12-lead is key in diagnosing a ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a serious heart attack. Treatment protocols can then be used to initiate advanced life support and provide advance notification to the receiving hospital’s cardiology team.  The utilization of this pre-arrival notification is vital for patients experiencing time-sensitive acute care cases like heart attacks, strokes, traumas, and sepsis in which minutes make all the difference.

Hospitals and medical teams use this information to make advance preparations for the incoming patient by streamlining the workflow to reduce time-to-treatment and restore critical blood flow to vital organs. With GD e-Bridge technology, FDNY ambulances can now forward 12-lead reports faster than ever before, with greater security and effective automation directly from their mobile device. In addition, they also have the capability of increased patient care in-route with more positive outcomes.

Jim Nejmeh, Vice President of Technical Services and Support at GD, stated “With the inclusion of GD e-Bridge™ on their new tablets, FDNY EMS now has a true EMS Mobile Telemedicine solution at their fingertips and can implement additional advanced capabilities.”  Nejmeh added, “Secure live video, multi-media messaging, ETA tracking, and much more are possible with GD e-Bridge™.

The Internet of Life Saving Things (IoLST), like the GD e-Bridge™, offer capabilities soon to be the norm in today’s mobile connected world, not only for hospitals but also for EMS and Community Paramedicine around the country, reducing risks and costs while ensuring the right care, at the right place, and the right time.” Today’s emergency healthcare demands the ability to do more patient care with less, while maintaining quality and accountability. For over 10 years, GD and FDNY have been working together to implement the latest technologies to ensure the best patient care available in the city.
